Our patient, kind and caring clinical team can help you change your feelings towards coming in for routine dentist appointments and treatment, by helping you to develop a more positive outlook. We are also one of the few dental practices in the area to offer sedation for patients who need an extra helping hand with relaxing, once in the dentist’s chair.
Being patient and understanding with any individual who is nervous about coming in to see us are the two cornerstones of our philosophy. We will never rush you into any treatment and we’re happy to arrange an appointment in a non-clinical setting, where we can answer your questions and show you around the practice.
It’s often the fear of the unknown and negative past experiences at the dentist that fuel feelings of anxiety in patients. Once we begin to address the origin of a person’s anxieties, we can begin to start building their confidence and gradually steer them towards having the treatment they need, in their own time.
What is sedation?
Dental sedation is a fast-acting drug which induces feelings of deep relaxation and well-being in patients. It is primarily known for being used when a patient has extreme dental phobia, but can also benefit patients who are undergoing a lengthy procedure and those who have a strong gag reflex.
I’m really embarrassed by the state of my teeth – will I be reprimanded?
Absolutely not. There is no shame whatsoever in feeling nervous enough not to attend the dentist for many years – dental phobia is a very tough and very real issue to live with.
We will never judge you, nor will we criticise you. We’re here to treat any issues that require attention, to care for you and to help you maintain great oral health in the future.
Will I be in control?
We always want you to feel in control during your time with us. A check-up will never begin until you are relaxed, and we can agree on a safe signal to indicate to your dentist that you need them to stop, if partway through a procedure you feel you need to stop. Even when under sedation, you will be fully conscious and able to communicate.
